There are different types of criminal justice programs which can prepare you for a law enforcement career. They can be broken down into a 2 year associates degree, and a 4 year bachelors degree.  Majors include; criminal justice, criminal justice administration, police science and law enforcement.   It is helpful to know what type of law enforcement job is of interest to you and what the educational requirements are.  The education requirements will vary from department to department, and from job to job. You will want to know if a 4 year college degree is required, a 2 year degree, a particular amount of college credits, or if a degree or college credits are not required.  It is then helpful to get an understanding of what type of major is required or will be of most benefit.  This can be learned by looking at the educational job requirements which may be posted on the agency website, in brochures and other written information available from each agency, and can be learned from talking with people in that agency.
