General Definition |
This is training level work in general duty police activities involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws, and the investigation of crimes. An employee in this class receives formal training at the Police Academy and on-the-job experience preparatory to assuming full patrol duties. Work is performed under the supervision of a police supervisor and requires regular exposure to uncontrolled and/or unpredictable conditions. The work requires frequent exercise of moderate physical effort. |

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Training, Education & Experience |
The following statement represents the minimum training and
experience standards which will be used to admit or reject
applicants for tests. Option 1 EDUCATION: Sixty (60) college credits with an overall grade point average of at least 2.0 at an accredited college or university.
OR EDUCATION: Education equivalent to completion of a standard high school.
AND
Two years of full time, active military service with an
honorable discharge. Option 3 EDUCATION: Education equivalent to completion of a standard high school.
AND One year of full time employment as a commonwealth or state certified Law Enforcement Officer which has been within the three year period immediately prior to the thirtieth (30) day after the last date for filing applications for the examination for this class. AND
CERTIFICATION: Possession of a commonwealth or state Law
Enforcement Officers’ Certification. Option 4 EDUCATION: Education equivalent to completion of a standard high school.
AND Successful completion of the Philadelphia Police Explorers Cadet Program, which shall have included a minimum of two years service with the Philadelphia Police Explorers Cadet Program, including 672 hours training offered by the Philadelphia Police Department and an additional 298 hours of community service or external training. |

Physical & Medical Requirements |
Ability to meet the physical and medical standards approved for this class. Age - Must have reached the following birthday as of the date of appointment. The date of appointment is the date on which a person actually enters the Police Academy for Training. For employees hired from eligible lists initially established during or after 2012: Twenty-first (21) |

Required Licenses & Certifications |
Must obtain and maintain a Pennsylvania Municipal Police
Officers’ Certification from the Pennsylvania Municipal Police
Officers Education and Training Commission during tenure of
employment as a Police Officer Recruit. |
