A Criminal Justice Degree can represent a variety of different things. In some some areas there are law enforcement-police academies located at 2-year technical or community college schools. While the police academy is separate from the 2-year associate program, these 2-year criminal justice programs tend to place more of an emphasis on preparing students for careers in law enforcement.

When looking at a 4-year Criminal Justice Degree Program you can get an idea of what the program will focus on, i.e. law enforcement, corrections, sociology, by looking at a list of the course offerings in the major. These are normally available on line. Also view a list of the faculty who will be teaching in the program. You can see what their background is, i.e. former FBI Agent, Criminologist, or Researcher. Also view what type of educational background they have. If they have a Doctorate in Sociology that will give you some idea as to the concentration of the program.
