Position Description
This position is responsible for the daily operations associated
with the METRO Police Department’s Dispatch section. Provides
communications dispatch services for the METRO Police Department
through telephone, two-way radio and teletype communications.
Provides dispatch and communication services to the METRO Police
Department and the Metropolitan Authority.
Operates radio consoles, Police 1 and Police 2, Computer Aided
Dispatch, Houston police Department, Texas Crime Information
Center/National Crime Information Center, NiceLog, TLETS and
Harris County MDT’s.
Maintain telephone and radio communications with METRO
Transportation, Houston Police Department, Harris County
Sheriff’s Department, Houston Fire Department dispatcher and
other related law enforcement agencies.
Monitors and responds to all incoming silent and fallback
emergency bus alarms, METRO office panic alarms and METRO
security guard radio communications.
Dispatches and coordinates ancillary personnel assigned to the
High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane management as needed for
emergency and non emergency.
Provides emergency notification in major accidents and fleet
accidents when a Traffic Management Police Officer (TMPO) is
unavailable.
Responds to internal/external telephone calls for police service
and information. Make decisions regarding priority
classification of call for service, i.e., telephone, field
generated. etc.
Maintains and achives dispatch logs, sick logs, route books,
route maps and TCIC-NCIC updates.
Dispatches, coordinates and provides information to and from the
City of Houston, Harris County and METRO's Emergency Management
Division when freeway incidents occur or the Office of Emergency
Management is activated.

Position Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum two (2) years experience as a dispatcher in a law
enforcement agency or an emergency response environment (Fire
Dept., EMS).
Basic TCLEOSE Telecommunications Certification required (ability
to obtain within six (6) months of hire date).
Thorough knowledge and the ability to operate the TLETS
accurately and efficiently.
Good communication (verbal) skills, attention to detail and
sound judgment in decision-making.
