Purpose of position Attends police officer academy and participates in on-the-job training to learn and enforce laws related to the protection of life and property; direct and control traffic; prevent crime or disturbance of peace; and arrest violators.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a high school diploma or have passed a General Educational Development (GED) Test and must have completed a minimum of sixty (60) semester college hours from an accredited college or university. An applicant may fulfill the college requirement by substituting one of the following: thirty (30) semester college hours and one (1) year of continuous employment as a police guard, telecommunications operator, parking controller within the University of Texas System; or thirty (30) semester hours and two years of active duty military service. If applicant holds only a high school diploma or GED, two years of continuous experience as a guard at a component institution of the University of Texas System is required. No experience is required if applicants hold sixty (60) semester college hours from an accredited college of university. Must possess a valid drivers license issued by the State where the applicant resides and must be insurable as defined in the UT System UTS157. Applicants who meet the above stated basic qualifications must complete and pass a written U.T. System Police Academy Entrance Examination with a minimum score of seventy percent. Applicants must also complete and successfully pass a polygraph examination. Applicants will be required to complete The University of Texas System Police Personal History Statement Form, and upon receipt by the department a thorough investigation will be conducted on each applicant for the position of Police Cadet. Applicants must meet the prerequisites established by the Office of the Director of Police, Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, and the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents concerning: AGE REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must have reached his/her 21st birthday ON DATE OF APPLICATION. GENERAL HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must pass the physical agility/fitness test and be capable of performing all police duties specified in the current job description.Applicants will be examined by a psychologist who is licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
