U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE INTERNATIONAL CIVILIAN POLICE PROGRAM

Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs

The Department of State is seeking experienced police officers who are eager to accept a challenging and rigorous assignment to serve with the United States CIVPOL in Middle Eastern post-conflict nations. Service with an international police mission allows officers to apply their professional skills in dynamic environments that are experiencing intense cultural and political change. In Afghanistan, police officers with specialized skills such as Police Driving Instruction, Female Basic Police Instruction, Criminal Investigations, Firearms Instruction, and Civil & Criminal Intelligence are needed to advise the Afghanistan National Police forces in modern democratic policing techniques. DI has served the U.S. State Department's CIVPOL program since 1994, and has sent over 6000 employees on police missions to the following countries: Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Haiti, Bosnia, Eastern Slovenia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia, Liberia, East Timor, and Israel.

American police officers who serve one year training police overseas gain as much as they give. Their experience teaching democratic police work is unique, and they bring a valuable new perspective to their jobs and their communities. Officers of all ranks return home with more acute problem-solving skills, a strong awareness of different cultures, and a profound appreciation for the role of law enforcement at all levels of a democratic society.
